The Modeling and Synthesis of Musical Signals with PRISM
نویسندگان
چکیده
Multidimensional signal modeling of musical notes can produce expressive and realistic synthesis for musical applications. The PRISM synthesis technology employs time-varying signal models using envelopes for pitch, power, and timbre evolution. PRISM also models the statistical variations of parameters over time in order to produce indefinitely long, non-looped sustains while maintaining the character of the original note’s sustain. The models from multiple signals are combined into a multidimensional parameter space. During synthesis, the desired location in the parameter space is mapped from input control values. Based on the desired location, the neighboring data sets are interpolated to form an intermediate, smoothly varying data set for synthesis. Using signal models allows for intuitive and powerful modifications of note properties both offline and real-time.

Timbre morphing: near real-time hybrid synthesis in a musical installation
This paper presents an implementation of a near real-time timbre morphing signal processing system, designed to facilitate an element of ‘liveness’ and unpredictability in a musical installation. The timbre morpher is a hybrid analysis and synthesis technique based on Spectral Modeling Synthesis (an additive and subtractive modeling technique). The musical installation forms an interactive soun...

Time series prediction is one of the major applications of neural networks. After a short introduction into the basic theoretical foundations we argue that the iterated prediction of a dynamical system may be interpreted as a model of the system dynamics. By means of RBF neural networks we describe a modeling approach and extend it to be able to model instationary systems. As a practical test f...
متن کاملRelationship between Intelligence Quotient and Musical Ability in Children with Cochlear Implantation
Introduction: Children with cochlear implants (CIs) may experience few opportunities for positive musical experiences, and musical perception is therefore often not sufficiently developed. This paper investigates and discusses the relationship between intelligence quotient (IQ) and musical ability in children with CIs compared with children with normal hearing. ...
متن کاملQuantative Evaluation of the Efficiency of Facial Bio-potential Signals Based on Forehead Three-Channel Electrode Placement For Facial Gesture Recognition Applicable in a Human-Machine Interface
Introduction: Today, facial bio-potential signals are employed in many human-machine interface applications for enhancing and empowering the rehabilitation process. The main point to achieve that goal is to record appropriate bioelectric signals from the human face by placing and configuring electrodes over it in the right way. In this paper, heuristic geometrical position and configuration of ...
متن کاملA Component-Based Approach for Modeling Plucked-Guitar Excitation Signals
Platforms for mobile computing and gesture recognition provide enticing interfaces for creative expression on virtual musical instruments. However, sound synthesis on these systems is often limited to sample-based synthesizers, which limits their expressive capabilities. Source-filter models are adept for such interfaces since they provide flexible, algorithmic sound synthesis, especially in th...
